engaged to transform a nineteen sixties four classroom block to a modern five classroom facility
incorporating quality light, dry, warm, ventilated, well designed learning spaces.
This upgrade was carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and with our School Board
and was part of the 5YA Funding Capital Works Project.
The directors of Miro Construction Ltd, Mr Rob and Amanda Howdill, were engaged as principal contractors for the project. Their communication with all stakeholders was comprehensive and engaging right from the start and this continued for the duration of the project. In terms of relationships with stakeholders, they were always personable and very positive.
Their friendly, professional disposition fostered a trusting relationship, and all issues were resolved in
a constructive and practical way. Several of the challenges, that arose during the construction phase,
were solved and remedied by the contractors and on several occasions generously undertaken at no
further cost to the project budget. This attitude certainly engendered goodwill between all parties and
enhanced the working relationship.
From our perspective, the company had a good knowledge of the building / construction processes
and were able to consider the big picture implications of decisions and had the ability to think ahead
and be proactive rather than reactive.
Staff management was a strength and the attitude of the workers was reflected in their work ethic,
their loyalty to the company and their quality of workmanship. Having to negotiate and manage a large
number of trades on site at the same time was a strength and a credit to the management.
In summary, our project was completed on time, within budget and with all parties feeling contented
with the finished product. We are now the proud recipients of a refreshing new learning space and
thank Miro Construction Ltd for bringing our dream to fruition.

I am pleased to provide this recommendation for MIRO Construction based on our experience working with them
on Henderson High School projects procured through open GETS tenders, with Thomas Consultants acting as
Project Manager for the school’s 5YA 2021/2022 projects.
Across this portfolio, MIRO tendered for three projects, was shortlisted for all three, and was contracted for two.
Through this involvement, we observed their approach to tendering, pre-construction coordination, contract
administration, and construction within a live school environment, including consented works.
The principal project we delivered together was the gym changing rooms refurbishment and hall toilets upgrade.
MIRO was notified as the preferred supplier in October 2024, although the contract was not signed until
September 2025 due to Ministry of Education funding constraints. Physical works commenced in late September
2025 and were completed in March 2026, with the Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) subsequently issued.
During the period between tender and contract award, the project was affected by insufficient funding and design
scope discussions, which required MIRO to reprice and delayed the start of works by nearly a year. Throughout this
process, MIRO remained responsive, constructive, and professional. They showed a genuine understanding of the
school’s constraints and MOE requirements and worked collaboratively with both us and the school to support
progression of the project. That cooperative approach was instrumental in enabling the project to proceed once
approvals and funding were confirmed.
The works included refurbishment of the gym changing rooms and upgrade of the hall toilets, including the addition
of three new unisex toilets and upgrades to all existing male and female facilities, with new direct external access
incorporated into the design. Once construction commenced, MIRO’s performance was consistently strong. The
works were planned and delivered effectively, and they demonstrated sound capability in managing consenting
and compliance requirements. MIRO also demonstrated a strong working knowledge of Ministry of Education
requirements.
Their communication throughout the project was clear, timely, and efficient. One of their key strengths is that they
are approachable and highly responsive, and they understand the practical challenges of delivering construction
works within an operational school. They worked constructively with me, the architect, and the school to achieve
the best possible outcome. In relation to variations, MIRO has consistently been fair and practical in its approach.
They do not pursue variation claims unnecessarily and often absorb smaller costs or work with the project team to
simplify administration. This has supported smoother project delivery and contributed to a positive working
relationship.
Based on our experience, I would confidently recommend MIRO Construction for future projects. They have
demonstrated strong coordination, compliance awareness, and collaborative communication, and in my view they
are among the best contractors we have worked with for school-led project delivery.
